Some of his best, most heartrending singing ever. Elvis is known to be a big Gram Parsons admirer, and I wouldn't be surprised if he intended "spikes the drink" as a tip of the hat to Parson's "$1,000 Wedding".

That is interesting...in a great way. I found out about him from a girl who moved from the east coast to the midwest in the early 80's.
She handed me 'Punch the Clock'. His music has been a life soundtrack since.
