This is Elvis Costellos first ever TV appearance - only a small part of this appears on his official DVD 'THe Right spectacle'. The original master tape was wiped.
Sorry, I think tom waits is a nobody and I swim against the tide with dylan too. Bob is overated, half of his lyrics make no damn sense yet somehow he's a genius?Dont forget until he went electric he was just a popular folk singer. Meet Lennon plug in and sing about the war and wow suddenly he is some kind of music deity.

Don't forget Tom Waits and Bob Dylan

EC didn't really come into his own until around '79-'80, so most of his quality stuff is early to mid 80's. Check out Veronica, Man out of Time, Less Than Zero, I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea, She, Watching the Detectives and for fun, Mystery Dance. On the eerie side, check out I Want You.

Watching the Detectives is the 2nd best, IMO. He has hard core fans, but I'm not one, and don't like any of his uptempo 80's stuff.

His melodic vocals on the fadeout are just insanely beautiful. EC's good, without a doubt, but THAT is sheer greatness.
10 MILLION thanks for posting this. You made my life .0001% richer. BLESS YOU!

After Lennon or Sir Paul...the best lyricist. Who could argue that?

I think I would like other Elvis Costello songs, but this is the only one I know of. Are there any other early seventees songs?
