'America' is well liked (for holidays, open spaces, etc) - its the paradigm of rampant doctrinaire capitalism and greed that is despised by many. People want simple reward for their efforts with no slight of hand by the financial 'masters of the universe'. OK, it naeive but you can understand it. Confuse that with flagburning and you are simply displaying a lack of mental flexibility. Simple.

Well, it was a hypothetical - but that does not make it senseless. Plenty of components and finished products are relatively 'dirt cheap' but that is irrelevant to the more complicated case in point: the consitution and origination of their inherent value in terms of (stress it) HUMAN input. That is why employers rightly fear strikes. It takes employed human 'Labour Power' in Marx's terminology to create value. When that power ceases to make enough profit capital exits. ...to China!

What you're saying makes no sense. CPUs and Motorcycle Transmissions take thousands of man hours to design and manufacture. They're dirt cheap.

It's not the "Maccaw" center it's the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

Just a clarification.

Egalitarianism IS NEVER PRACTICAL!!!!

You're right. No crisis has ever resulted in liberalisation. The only responses have been towards further government expansion. It's evident in everything from the response to 9/11 to current credit crunch.

I wasn't aware Milton Friedman was ever in charge of the economy.

We don't have to. She cites everything in the book, and I've looked over the reference section, it checks out.

Is she serious? She really believes that wars and crises have been used to institute limited government and economic liberalization? I encourage everyone to watch this series and then research the points found within.

Fine, withdraw all labor (mental and physical) from the product and see how much value you have left. It is a plan statement of fact.
