i don't see them as emo... they are like a blend of post punk and sludge metal almost... they are way to raw to be emo. like ffreekk said, they are kinda like minor threat-ish...i 'de classify them as early hardcore...

as is the truest meaning of the word, emo meant bands like fugazi and sunny day real estate.Today the term emo has become somewhat skewed as it incorpoates everything from what many would call pop-emo with the likes of Dashboard Confessional and Paramore all the way out to screamo and emocore with the likes of Glassjaw and Drop Dead Gorgeous. However despite this Fugazi is in essence emo in its truest form.

Actually, by definitition emo is the genre created the DC hardcore scene as band such as Fugazi filled the void of the likes of Minor Threat with a slower paced music and lyrics took on a more emotional sense. The term "emo" actually is a short-form of the initial name "emotional hardcore". As a matter of fact in the mid nineties, when Weezer first burst onto the scene a number of people refered to them as "emo" and rivers cuomo was very taken a back because is his mind,
