Ever heard of Turkestan? It's a region in China. Some extremists there are sympathetic to the Taliban. Maybe they supplied some shells tot eh Taliban.

What pissed them off was killing them. That tends to make people mad. And no not a "great Job". I am going to hell for that and in the end it accomplished nothing except making more enemy, making the world a more dangerous place. Not why I went there, not why I tried.
