you saying it's "the best in this particular selection" is all everyone else is saying. very few comments said anything more competitive than simply comparing the solos to one another and saying their opinion of which was best.
i completely agree with the sentiment though, music is getting far too competitive, especially among young guitarists. it makes me wish i lived back when this song was originally written, when it was all about the music and the soul you put in it.

you said it bro! musicians play to express themselves, and it should never be about competition

Have you been reading the comments, Joe?
joebassplayer(November 25, 2008 at 11:44 am)
who said it as was a competition??! anyway, he's just playing the way he plays, and happens to out play every single one of the guiarists...

I feel like someone needs to say this...Yes Pattitucci's solo is smokin', no doubt, and the best in this particular selection; however, IT IS NOT A COMPETITION!!!! And I say this not just to you, yagamei, but to everyone posting. If you want a ocmpetition, turn on a sporting event. This is supposed to be art and soloists are supposed to serve the music and express themselves, which they do in this clip; not outdo one another.

That's also John Abercrombie and the late, great Tal Farlow not long before he died.

It seems like a very formal concert event. They can still "go crazy", but they have to look nice.

Love your posts. Btw, you gotta have the Album "I can see your house from here." Great Pat Metheny + John Scofield Album.
