If you have 8.04 or newer simply click right button of your mouse the desktop, click Desktop Effects, chooose what you want. You can get more stuff: open terminal, write sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager press enter, enter your password and wait

I'm sorry. i was just expressing my opinion on this piece of software. I seriously apologize. I just find ubuntu kinda corny and just for visuals. Now, if you can find me some good midi composition software with vst support..I would consider using it. I am sorry for calling software gay.
