taken from 'Folksongs and Ballads popular in Ireland - vol 1', 1979 by John Loesberg:One of America's legendary bluesman was a black singer named Huddie Ledbetter, nicknamed Leadbelly. Playing a homemade 12-string guitar he went around the southern states collecting and composing songs in his own inimitable style. 'Cottonballs at home', 'Bourgeois Blues' and this one were popular through him. The song has recently been adapted from it's original blues-style into a more flowing piece.
