I think we agree, you just said it in the long version. The children of the 50's, baby boomers had a dif outlook than the gen who realized the effects of WWII. They had in fact an "innocence" which is what I was trying to say. I think the meaning of Bye Bye Miss American Pie is probably obvious to most older Americans.

There was no innocence in the 50s This country was being run by the greatest generation.The one which won a war against facism.The children of that generation. Had all the promish and hope of the innocence. the sixty's,the seventy's showded them how wrongand misled they were.

moss grows fat on a rolling stone. could that be Like a rolling stone (DYlan) "Moss" is green like money and and "Fat" is someone whose made a lot of money, which goes into "that's not how it used to be" meaning he used to do it for another reason.
