I do agree with you, however I had a look at his bio on IMDb, he was directing and producing this. I have just finished shooting a low budget feature where I acted in both capacities and I will never do it agiain if avoidable. The level of stress is incredible, it's easy to say what the smart thing is but clearly when there's an outburst like this you are no longer thinking with the rational side of your brain. Creative people are rarely understood and too often labeled when they lose it.

The smart thing to do in a situation like this is to clear out the crew and have a go at the actor in private or eloquently defuse the situation. Russell took the worst possible option. Humiliating an actor in front of the crew has a boomerang effect. He opened himself to ridicule and the label of being difficult. Russell would have totally lost the respect of the crew by behaving like a manic, not to mention the rest of the cast. The leak of 'rushes' testifies to the fact.

as a director I am so completely over actors who have to "contextualise" and question every single thing. I agree with the earlier post, the director has the vision and should be shown some respect. No wonder he lost his temper.

well it was clever enough not to make a definite message or a morale..but basically, it comes down to "life is a mess, yet it's beautiful..but a mess....but beautiful...and so on" there is no one way to look at it just like living itself.
