The "Does it look like I give a damn?" is a character development piece to show his brashness and youth. Its brilliant. It awards bond fans with a joke. And dozens of easily seduced women is not only subjective to women but it detracts from the plot. But yes, Q is bomb. They need him.

You're right, Craig is a great actor, but they still left out Q and Money Penny, and his witty remarks, and all the dozens of easily seduced women, and all the spiffy gadgets. He even says "Does it look like I give a damn?" when the bartender asks him what kind of Vodka Martini he would like. Without that, it can never be called a truly great Bond film. It's not so much the actor as the director, and plot.
